York Charity Scoops Top Award!
The Retreat, a 217 year old mental health charity based in Heslington, won the prestigious 'Psychiatric Team of the Year Award - Working-age Adults' at the Royal College of Psychiatrists glittering event in London yesterday.
Awarded to the team working in the specialist eating disorder unit, they were congratulated by Professor Louis Appleby, the Government's National Director of Mental Health on their dedication, expertise, innovation and life-changing outcomes.
Affectionately referred to as 'Naomi', the unit offers 15 inpatient beds for women recovering from a variety of complex and challenging eating disorders. By combining specialist psychiatry, psychology and nursing with occupational therapy and social work the unit provides a comprehensive pathway for overcoming what can be a serious and life threatening condition.
Receiving the award on behalf of the team Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr Andrea Brown told us "We're all honoured and humbled to have been given this award and have our work recognised by the Royal College and our peers. The success of the unit is down to every member of the team who care so deeply about the work they do. Eating Disorders are often difficult for people to talk about and we hope the publicity this award generates will encourage people to seek the help and advice they need to get better."
