The Government’s ‘Improving Access to Psychological Therapies’ (IAPT) initiative hit the headlines again recently, with reports of thousands of patients being stuck on so-called ‘hidden’ waiting lists.
Figures from NHS Digital revealed that while nine out of ten IAPT patients were initially seen within the target time of six weeks, many faced long waits between their first and second appointments – more than 90 days for one in six patients on the programme.
It’s no secret that the NHS mental health services are under severe pressure and whilst IAPT services are making a real difference to many of the people who can access them, long waits for treatment can be devastating for people suffering from conditions like stress, depression or anxiety. So too can starting a course of treatment but not seeing it through to its conclusion.
Fortunately, charities like The Retreat exist to fill the gap for people who want to get their lives back on track feel they simply can’t wait months to get the help they need.
We provide a wide range of value for money, easy-to-access therapy services that can help people cope with:
Our therapies are usually delivered face to face, in relaxing therapy rooms. Appointments are available at times to suit today’s busy lifestyles including, from 4thJanuary 2020, on Saturday mornings.
In addition, if you are unable to come to The Retreat for your appointments, whatever the reason, we may be able to offer you an appointment via video link, using a secure platform called VSEE.
Early in the new year we will have a number of different therapy packages available at a range of different price points – visit our website in early January 2020 to find out more. We know that some people struggle to finance therapy and we are doing our best to find ways to help.
