The Lord Mayor of York, Councillor John Galvin, proved he was game for anything after receiving an invitation from patients at The Retreat in York.
The Retreat is a not-for-profit specialist mental health provider, working with the NHS to provide care for people with complex and challenging needs.
The Lord Mayor was invited to join elderly patients in a Games Group, taking part in activities like indoor bowls, bean bag throwing and ball games. The aim of the group is to promote the importance if exercise for the elderly.
Chris Dawson, clinical service manager for older people’s services, said: “We welcome the opportunity to show the Lord Mayor and the civic party some of the wonderful facilities we have here at The Retreat.
“We work hard to ensure our environment is as homely as possible.
“We are committed to ensuring that the people who use our services have access to the type of therapeutic activities that will improve their self esteem, physical and mental health as they move forward in their recovery.
“For our patients and staff it’s always a boost to morale to have a distinguished guest take an interest in our work.”
