Referral Information for Healthcare Professionals

Inpatient services

To make a referral for inpatient care at The Retreat, we require completion of our Patient Referral Form from a healthcare professional such as a Consultant Psychiatrist, Care Coordinator, Social Worker or Commissioner.  These can be faxed to our Referrals Team on the Safehaven Fax no 01904 430906 or by post to The Referrals Team, The Retreat, Heslington Road, York, YO10 5BN, together with additional information such as Psychiatric Reports, Social Care Reports and Structured Risk Assessments.  We also require information on who is responsible for funding.

• Once a referral is received, we will acknowledge the referral by the end of the next working day.
• The referral will be forwarded to the appropriate consultant and clinical team for screening against relevant admission criteria.
• If the patient is deemed suitable for admission we will liaise with you regarding a suitable time for an assessment. Usually the patient will be invited to visit the unit if possible.
• Upon clinical acceptance and written confirmation of funding a place will be offered.

Psychological Therapies - The Tuke Centre

To see a psychiatrist or a psychologist we will need a letter of referral.
To see a psychotherapist or a counsellor the client can refer themselves directly.
In either case we will arrange an initial appointment to assess the client’s needs.
