Mental healthcare for people : not for profit
The Retreat and York and District Mind celebrated World Mental Health
Day on Saturday 10 October with an open event in the grounds of The
Retreat. Andrew Waller, leader of City of York Council, opened the
event at which approximately 150 people attended.
The two charities joined together to increase awareness of mental health issues and highlight ways in which people can help improve their mental health. 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem in any one year.
A host of activities were organised including information stands, cake stalls, refreshments, tombola and a charity auction. The star attraction was a hot air balloon ride.
In his opening speech Councillor Waller said “World Mental Health Day is a global awareness campaign and this year’s theme is about the all too-often neglected fact that mental health is an integral element of every individual’s overall health and well-being. Today’s event is to provide local people with information and advice on what help is available in York”.
